Human body is a great miracle. Understanding its functions is a major challenge for doctors and scientists today. The main organ that runs our body is the brain. That is, our human body is the vehicle of the brain. Get the brain working.
All the other organs are auxiliary organs that help it to achieve the things it thinks. In this way, the brain turns our body into a vehicle and turns itself into a driver. Do you know what is the fuel that drives our body? It is hormones.
These are produced in the endocrine glands in our body. There are six endocrine glands in our body from bottom to top. Each of these secretes different hormones. Apart from this our brain also secretes some hormones. These hormones are the ones that run our body as a whole.
It is because these work in harmony with each other that we are healthy. For example, the pituitary gland secretes hormones for body growth, the pancreas to regulate the body’s blood sugar levels.
We need to be fully aware of the hormones that control our body’s health and our movement. Hormone secretion is essential for body growth and health. At the same time it should be secreted only as needed. If it is secreted more or less than required, it will also have negative effects on the body.
How many types of hormones are there and what magic do hormones do in our body? Let’s see in detail. There are six types of endocrine glands in our body. Let’s take a look at each of them here.Pituitary Gland Located near our brain, the pituitary gland is shaped like a pea. It is the first of the endocrine glands. That is why it is called “Master Clan”. It is the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland that control the other glands. If there is any damage to the pituitary gland, other hormone glands are also affected.
The thyroid gland is in the shape of a butterfly in front of the neck. Thyroid hormones are produced from this. Thyroid hormones are classified into two types namely T3 and T4. Among these, D3 hormone can help our body grow.
These hormones must be secreted in the right amount. If it is secreted in excess of the requirement, there will be effects such as increased heart rate, weight loss, frequent bowel movements, and bone wear. This is called ‘Hyperthyroidism’.
Similarly, it should not be secreted less than required. Such secretion is called “hypothyroidism” (Hypothyroidism). Hypothyroidism is a common problem. Women are more affected than men. If thyroid hormone is secreted less, every cell in the body from head to toe will be affected.
Dry skin, hair loss, swelling of the neck, decreased heart rate, water accumulation around the lungs, stomach acid, constipation, menstrual disorders, problems with conception, leg swelling, fatigue, body pain, joint pain etc. About one in ten women over the age of fifty are affected.
The exact cause of this effect has not yet been identified. A theory is put forward by doctors that it is ‘probably caused by genetics’. Thyroid function test can be used to find out if there is a thyroid problem. Through this test, we can find out if the thyroid hormones are under-secreted or over-secreted and can be treated accordingly.
If it is less or more secreted, it can be controlled with medicines. However, this effect cannot be completely cured, only controlled. Generally, thyroid problems require taking pills for life. Exceptionally, some people develop thyroid problems during pregnancy. It gets better after delivery. It is enough if they take pills only during those times.
Painful neck swelling is the most common thyroid problem. This damage due to iodine deficiency was more common in earlier times. Nowadays, the salt we use has been mixed with iodine, which has reduced to a great extent. At the same time, there is one thing we need to pay attention to when using salt for cooking. Do not add salt at the beginning of cooking.
High heat destroys all the nutrients in the salt. It should be added only when it is cooked and cooled down. It protects against thyroid problems. Some people may develop lumps in the neck. It is referred to as ‘Thyroid Nodule’ in medical language. Some fear, “It might be a cancerous tumor.”
No need to be afraid. About 1 in 100 people with thyroid disease develop thyroid nodules. Only a centimeter or more should be checked by a doctor. They will do certain tests and if there is any damage they will correct it through surgery.
Thyroid hormones have not started to be secreted in the first three months of the fetus. It is the mother’s hormones that help the child’s physical development. Therefore, women should be tested for normal thyroid production as soon as they conceive.
It is necessary to be tested even after the birth of the child. If there is a thyroid problem, there will be a problem in fertility. There are some beliefs that the mental development of the children will be affected. All of them are not true.
Taking the necessary treatment and maintaining proper thyroid hormone levels will not affect delivery. The baby will not have a problem. Pancreatic gland Insulin hormone secreted in the beta cells of the pancreatic gland is very important. These hormones help in the metabolism of cells in our body.
Even if these are not secreted in the right amount, even if the secreted insulin does not work properly, diabetes will occur. If there is no production of insulin, it is called ‘type 1 diabetes’. This damage is caused by the destruction of beta cells that can produce insulin.
The reason why they are going extinct has not yet been discovered. There are chances of this effect occurring at the age of 15-16. If there are effects like sudden weight loss, fatigue, frequent urination, there is a possibility of type 1 diabetes. Get checked out by a doctor immediately.
If insulin is produced and it does not work properly, it is called “type 2 diabetes”. Type 2 diabetes is prevalent in our country. Obesity is a major reason for that. This effect can also cause fatigue and weakness.
The doctor will test and diagnose the type of diabetes and treat accordingly. Type 1 diabetes requires insulin injections. Type 2 can be controlled with pills. It is sufficient to inject insulin only when needed. Diabetes Insipidus (Diabetes Insipidus) If the hormone ‘Vasopressin’ secreted in the hypothalamus, a part of the brain, is not properly secreted, the urine will dilute. This causes frequent urination. 7 to 10 liters of urine is produced per day.
Tumors or injuries in the brain will affect this hormone gland. Some people may experience this for no apparent reason. ‘Vasopressin’ hormones can be made to secrete smoothly through drugs and pills.
